                  SUMMER 2002 EVENTS

On Saturday, September 7, 2002, the Frances R. Willis SPCA participated in the 29th Annual Harleyville See Saw Daze festival.  The festival included a dog show and contests for the dog with shortest/longest tail, dog with shortest/longest ears, dog with most hair, best dressed dog, best tail wagger, and Best of Show, which was judged by the amount of applause from the crowd.  The SPCA would like to thank Sue Eckles, Margaret Bailey, David Branom, and Patty Walton for their hard work and dedication to the SPCA.  We would also like to thank Cherly Grahm and the Harleyville Festival Committee for sponsoring the dog contest.  Last, but not least, we would like to thank Dorchester County Councilman Kenny Waggoner for his help in judging the contest......EVERY YEAR!!!!!

It is that time of the year again for Scarecrows in the Square.  Our motto this year is "Be Smart, Be a Lifesaver....Adopt a SPCA pet today."  Come down to town square in Summerville between Saturday, October 19 and Saturday, November 2, and vote for our Scarecrow.  It only costs 25 cents per vote.  A special thanks to Shelter Manager, Karen Long & Ben Black, Executive Director & Ben's wife Paige, for their hard work in preparing this years scarecrow.

The Frances R. Willis SPCA would like to thank Tom Bolt with 98 Rock for donating his valuable time by broadcasting live at the SPCA and supporting our membership drive on September 14.  We had a record number of adptions, memberships, and Guardian Angel sponsorships because of his hard work and enthusiastic attitude.  The picture show below, from left to right, is Ben Black, Executive Director & Karen Long, Shelter Manager & Tom Bolt, 98 Rock Clown.
