Call Us If You're Missing Your Pet

We are very sorry you are missing your pet. Filling out a lost report is only one of the things you can do to find them. Listed below are a few more suggestions that may help reunite you and your pet.

1. Please call the other two shelters: Charleston's number is 747-4849 and Berkeley's two locations are 761-0683 (shelter) and 797-0610 (adoption center).

2. If possible, make fliers with the pet's photo and description and distribute to all shelters, area vets, pet stores, Wal-Mart pet boards, etc.

3. Post a sign at all nearby neighborhood entrances/exits. Also consider asking the neighborhood kids if they've seen your pet...kids can have good eyes for stray animals.

4. Call all veterinarians in your area.

5. Call the after-hours Emergency Clinic at 744-3372.

6. Run an ad in the local newspapers. The Post and Courier's number is 722-6500. The Summerville Journal-Scene is 873-9425 and the Dorchester Eagle-Record is 563-3121.

7. Place a free classified ad online at www.petfinder.org. It will automatically expire after two weeks.

Stray animals are held five (5) days, so you will need to come by the shelter and check for your pet every two to three days. We keep lost reports on file indefinitely. When you find your pet, please do us the courtesy of letting us know so we can remove your report from our files. This will make it quicker and easier for us to reunite others with their pets.

Finally, when you find your pet, remember to put collar and tag on him, or even better, have him microchipped. These are the best ways to ensure your pets safe return. Good Luck!

NOTICE

Filing a report does not make the SPCA responsible for identifying your lost pet. State law mandates that stray animals are held 5 days. YOU must look for your pet every 2-3 days.
