The Frances R. Willis SPCA would like to thank Katrina Patton for her Guardian Angel lifetime  sponsorship.  Ms. Patton is the first lifetime sponsor at the SPCA and we couldn't be happier.  Ms.  Patton's sponsorship will last for 25 years and during that time, the cats that live in cages C-10 thru C-15 will always have special treats available and professional grooming when needed.  Ms. Patton's cage plate reads, "LIFETIME SPONSOR, In Memory of Buster, Katrina L. Welcome to our home on the web!
 
The shelter was established over 25 years ago
to provide a safe haven for stray, abandoned, abused or lost pets. It's named for Frances Willis, who brought the SPCA to Dorchester County and founded the shelter.

Over the years we have expanded our facility, but we continue to reach our capacity, because our community is growing and because the pet overpopulation crisis is not abating. In 2001 the shelter served more than 4,300 homeless or unwanted animals.

But there is good news. We are very proud to have an adoption rate which exceeds the ASPCA national average. And we're working hard to spread the news about pet adoption, spaying and neutering, and responsible pet ownership.


With a young, dynamic staff and a corps of dedicated volunteers, the shelter is poised to make significant improvements for animal welfare in the county. Come on out and visit us today, and join us as we work toward a day when there are no more homeless pets.

Our Mission

To instill humane principles into society, to prevent cruelty to animals, and to enforce animal protection laws. To feed the hungry, shelter the homeless, reunite lost pets with owners, and through adoptions, find homes for as many stray animals as possible. To humanely put to death as few animals as necessary. To practice animal kindness, fight overpopulation by spaying and neutering, and to champion responsible pet ownership.
